Repipes

There has been an ongoing failure of copper plumbing in distribution lines of homes on municipal water supplies throughout the country. This problem has been documented for the last several years. As plumbers, we have been seeing the results of these failures with increasing frequency. The problem has become so widespread that some states officials have set up a task force of government representatives (see Sarasota County link above) and top researchers to investigate the cause and come up with a solution.

What is a re-pipe?

Re-pipe or re-plumb is a complete replacement of the water distribution system in a home. All pipe, fittings, stops and supply lines are replaced. The majority of lines will run from the main water shut-off outside of the home and into the attic. From the attic, lines drop within the walls to each fixture.

Protect yourself and your home from damage. The best protection is prevention. One leak from a defective pipe system could grow into an enormous problem. Stop the source of water! Stop the leak! Removal of the defective piping system is the only way to stop the leak. When galvanized, copper and polybutylene water piping start to leak they continue without end.

SURE SIGNS OF A COPPER PIPE LEAK AND SOME OF THE POSSIBLE DAMAGES ARE:

  • Moist/Damp Spots in Your Drywall, Concrete Floors or Wooden Structure.
  • Greenish Copper Oxide on Pipe Surfaces
  • Development of Toxic Black Mold in areas with Little Ventilation or Air Movement
  • Reduced Water Pressure and Flow
  • Reduced Value of Your Property
  • Increased Insurance Costs or even Cancellation due to Water Damage
  • Structural Damage and Remediation Costs incurred to Remove Toxic Black Mold can be Extraordinary
  • Potential loss of Irreplaceable Family Heirlooms due to Extensive Water Damage

Preparing for a re-pipe:

There usually is little to do to prepare for your re-pipe.  Cleaning out underneath the bathroom and kitchen sinks beforehand can be a great help. Anything blocking access to the water heater in the garage or a closet should be moved. The access to the attic should also be easily available. If for any reason you choose not to move anything we will gladly do it for you. Your cabinets will be clean and ready for you when we are done. If anything looks out of place when we are finished, just let us know so we can return it to it's proper place. We will do a "walk-through" with you upon completion to show you the work that was done and the critical location of your valves to shut off the fixtures or the house. Please feel free to ask questions at any time during the re-pipe process.
